SPECIAL CITY COUNCIL MEETING
June 10, 2008
12:30 PM
ROYALTON CITY CENTER
Mayor Lauer called the Special City Council Meeting to order. Members present were: Lauer, Cekalla, Verley and Gutzkow. Absent: Libke
People present: Randal Thielges; Melanie Cimenski; Greg Cimenski; Joe G. Cimenski; Steve Cimenski; Auralia Cimenski; Clara Jean Mallak; Lee Popp, Public Works; Les Mateffy, City Engineer; and Carol Madsen, City Clerk.
Purpose of the special meeting is to discuss the No. Maple Street private water line and how to get water to Joe & Auralia Cimenski’s new home.
A one inch private line is currently servicing No. Maple Street. An area of the pipe was leaking and had to be repaired. Since it’s only a one inch line, there is a concern that hooking up Joe Cimenski’s new house would cause low water pressure. The Cimenski’s are requesting approval for them to hook up to the existing shallow well about 30’ from house.
The City Council discussed putting in a City water line since they are already having trouble with the private line and it could get very costly for the home owners if they had to continue to repair it.
Mayor Lauer explained that the City is trying to eliminate all private lines. If the City did a project, the assessments would be assessed to the property over a period of time. Council Member Verley stated we can fix it now or in 2 years, but the project will not get any less expensive. The cost of the project was discussed. City Engineer, Les Mateffy, projected the cost would be approximately $78,000 with the City picking up 25% of that. The remaining 75% will be divided by the five benefiting property owners.
Verley made a motion to allow Joe Cimenski to hook up to an existing private well on his property, contingent the private well is tested and potable, until the City water line becomes available to their property, and at that time they will hook up to the City water line, 2nd by Cekalla. Put to a vote with all members voting aye. Motion carried.
Cekalla made a motion to hold a public hearing for the No. Maple Street project at 7:15 p.m. on July 8, 2008, at the Regular City Council meeting, 2nd Gutzkow. Put to a vote with all members voting aye. Motion carried.
Cekalla made a motion to adjourn at 1:48 p.m. seconded by Verley. Put to a vote all members voting aye. Motion carried.
