Feb. 22 A snowstorm, similar to those of the days of Paul Bunyan, visited a large area in this section Saturday night and Sunday and was followed by another more severe storm Tuesday night and Wednesday. Over a foot of snow fell in both storms and was driven by a strong wind that has drifted more than has been witnessed in several years. Train No. 1 is stalled in a snow drift 3 miles south of Rice.
Mar. 9 T.K. Hasbrouck of Rice has purchased the Hotel Royalton from M.P. Parks. Mr. Hasbrouck owns the Northern Pacific hotel at Rice. The Parks have moved to Minneapolis.
Mar. 9 H.J. Meyers, who has attended to the local interest of the Standard Oil Co, resigned. S.A. Dahlquist of Little Falls has taken up the work for the company.
Mar. 16 Shortly after train No. 11 on the Northern Pacific left Rice, Friday evening, the train crew discovered a fire in the combination mail and baggage car. The train was stopped and left standing while the engine brought the burning car to Royalton. 35 sacks of mail were thrown out when the fire was discovered but several sacks of second class mail were destroyed by fire. The walls of the car were badly damaged and will have to be replaced but the floor of the car was still in tacked.
Mar. 30 Otto Trettel of Little Falls has purchased Louis Binick meat market.
Mar 30 H.J. Meyer will be agent for the new Sinclair Oil Co in Royalton.
Apr. 13 Charles R. Rhoda after 30 years as cashier at the First National Bank has retired. M.J. Kamla will replace Rhoda on Monday. Mr. Rhoda will remain one of the officers of the bank.
Apr. 20 A change will take place the first of May in the ownership and management of the Palace Theatre, Wm. Gilmer having purchased the building and its contents from the former owners Rhoda and Noggle.
June 8 Graduation exercises of the high school were held at the Palace Theatre Monday evening, when a class of nine received their diplomas.
June 8 H.M. Logan was officially informed Tuesday that his appointment to the Royalton postmastership had been confirmed. He will succeed W.L. McGonagle, who has held the office for the past eight years.
July 13 McCarthy Well Co. arrived Friday to begin work on the ten inch well for the village waterworks system. The well is to be at the north end of the city hall. The siren fire alarm will be placed on the top of the tower affording an ideal location.
Aug. 3 The Morrison County Lumber Co purchased the Rudd Lumber Co yards Monday. J.J. Chirhart will remain as manager. Morrison County Lumber Co has yards at Rice, Pierz, and Staples.
Aug. 24 Services of laying the cornerstone for the new Catholic Church building to replace the one destroyed by fire, the ninth of last November, was held at North Prairie Sunday afternoon.
Aug. 24 By August 31 the paved highway from Minneapolis thru Royalton to the Soo viaduct will be completed and open to travelers.
Sept. 28 The pleasant weather and program offered by the committee in charge of the pavement celebration brought out a large crowd to town Saturday to enjoy the day.
Sept. 28 John Rudeck has purchased the Harris Noggle building on Front Street and the adjoining lot. Repairs are being made and Mr. Rudeck will soon open a garage and filling station.
Oct. 12 About all the material for the water works system in the village have arrived and the work of installing the system has been started.
Oct. 26 I.W. Bouck is having his warehouse near the Merchants Hotel wrecked. The building was erected forty-two years ago and was used as a part of the store building by I.W. Bouck until he erected the brick block occupied by the Garber Store and Farmers and Merchants Bank.
Nov. 2 The paving from Royalton to Little Falls was opened to traffic Saturday afternoon. A motorist returned from Royalton to Little Falls Sunday in twenty minutes a distance of 10.6 miles and he did not exceed the speed limit.
Nov. 23 The water tank was completed Tuesday when the last of the paint was applied and the siren fire alarm was set at the section of the tower, 70 feet above the ground.
Nov. 23 The pump house is almost completed. The building will serve as a house for the pump as well as a jail.
