Jan. 2 three Royalton business places were broke into, the thieves obtaining money and merchandise.  Royalton Drug Store, Hedlund and Hanson Garage and the Berry filling station were the places entered.   No drugs were taken from the Drug Store.

Jan. 23 Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Steinbrecher arrived here to prepare to open a Gambles Store in the Graham Block owned by Dr. E. McGonagle.

Feb. 6 A.W. Schwartz’s Royalton Drug Store and Grell’s Log Bar were broken into Saturday night with cash and goods taken.  This is the second time in a month that the Drug Store was broken into.  No drugs were taken this time either. 

Mar 6 the village has purchased the lot east of the Royalton State Bank for the new Community Hall.  The original plans of all concrete building were scrapped because of costs and now a new plan calls for a 40X80 brick-tile building with a 64X40 auditorium.

Mar 13 a special Northern Pacific crew of workmen is erecting concrete standards at the two railroad crossing in Royalton, in preparation for installation of flasher signals this spring.

Mar. 13 new playground equipment- a set of swings- for the public school has arrived and will be set up as soon as weather permits.

Mar. 20 the grand opening of the Royalton Gambles store has been announced by Bruce Steinbrecher, owner, for Friday March 21.  The triangle portion of the Graham Block has been taken over by the new business.

Mar. 20 Frank DeZurik is repairing has building on Front Street, the former Kroll hardware store.  A concrete basement floor will be laid, a new front will be installed and later apartments will be completed on the second floor.

Mar. 27 Royalton’s Superintendent, S.L. Wallen, will retire at the end of the school year.  This will be his 19th year here.  Miss Idelia Loso, principle of ten years, will resign as well as six of the eight teachers at the schools.

Apr. 3 the flashing crossing signals are now in daily operation.

Apr. 24 Royalton’s new superintendent of school’s next fall will be Joseph S. Brula.

May 1 Louis Klisch, Bowlus, has purchased Kasella Hardware and Implement.  The building will be used as a blacksmith shop and general machine repair.

May 15   Frank Karlinski is making improvements to his building, the former Mike Skroch building, on Front Street.  He will convert the southern part of the building into an appliance store leaving only dry goods and groceries in the present store.

May 29 the free movie night on Saturday nights on the vacant lot east of the Royalton State Bank begins this Saturday and the free Wednesday night band concerts held in the city park begin next week.

June 5 the Dickson Café, operated by Mr. and Mrs. John Dickson, will open June 7.  The café is located in the former Kroll Hardware building on Front Street.

June 5 twenty-eight seniors will receive their high school diplomas at commencement exercise tonight.

June 19 a class of 121 young people and adults were confirmed at the services held Sunday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church here.

July 3 Leo Kowitz is the new manager of the Royalton Elevator and Farm Supply Co.

July 3 the Log Bar, local liquor store operated for the past several years by Mr. and Mrs. Jack Grell, has been purchased by F.T. Burleo. 

Oct. 9 City council approves a 40 foot wide by 100 foot long “Quonset” to be installed as the new Municipal Hall.  Plans call for a front portion to be built of brick and be wider then the auditorium.    
Note:   many times the town tries to build a new Community Hall since the Palace burned down in Jan. 1945.  With the war on, and then after the war, materials are always in short supply and the town only has $10,000 to spend.  Most of that money has come from the local community clubs and organizations.

Oct. 23 the second annual Royalton High School Homecoming was held with a parade thru the streets and a bon fire on the school play ground then a victory football game with the crowning of the queen at half time followed by a dance in the schools gym.

Oct. 30 Lutherans in the Royalton community met last Tuesday and voted to organize a congregation, which will be known as St. Paul Lutheran Church.   The Lutheran group is at present holding Sunday services in the Karlinski Funeral Home building.

Nov. 6 a temporary bridge is being built over the Platte River on Highway Ten while the old steel bridge is torn down to make way for a new concrete bridge to be built in the spring for the widen of Highway Ten.

Dec. 11 a 20 foot Christmas tree was erected and lit in the City Park last week.

Dec. 11 Dick Hansen has purchased the Log Bar from F.T. Burkleo and Milton Kerhoff has purchased the Royalton Elevator and Supply Co.

Dec. 25 nearly 500 children enjoyed the annual Civic Club’s free Christmas movie and gifts.
